Professor Mohammad Torfeh, Electrical and Computer Engineering, recently spoke on Bloomberg TV about his memories of General Motors CEO Mary Barra, a 1985 alumna of Kettering University. In January, Barra became the first woman to hold a CEO position with any of the major American car companies.

During the interview with Bloomberg TV, Professor Torfeh said he vividly remembers Barra focusing on her assignments and always ready to attack and solve problems. He described her as bright and hard working.

Barra was known for her collaboration in teamwork assignments, Torfeh said. “She involved everybody … to make them part of the team.” He said her leadership skills were evident even then and ensured the team assignments were done and done properly.

Professor Torfeh said it has been amazing to see Barra’s transformation from being a student, and what she learned as a student, to how she applies what she learned at the University to her role as CEO of GM.
